109% Premium Refund

If no claim for covered critical illnesses has been made during the benefit period, the plan guarantees 109% refund of the total premiums paid upon policy maturity.

B

Coverage Against 38 Critical Illnesses

Receive a critical illness benefit equivalent to 100% of the sum assured¹ upon the diagnosis of any of the covered 38 common critical illnesses.

C

Extra Coverage Against 4 Special Illnesses

Receive a special illness benefit equivalent to 20% of the sum assured upon the diagnosis of any of the 4 covered special illnesses².

D

Unemployment Premium Deferment

ROPCI - A

109% Premium Refund

In the event of being diagnosed with any of the covered critical illness, you will receive 100% of the sum assured¹ as a lump sum cash amount through the critical illness benefit, helping you to ease the financial impact of medical costs.

On the other hand, if you are in good health without needing to claim for any covered critical illness, the plan guarantees 109% premium refund of the total premiums paid upon the death of the life assured or at the end of the 10ᵗʰ policy year.

ROPCI - B

Coverage Against 38 Critical Illnesses

Did you know? Cancer, heart attack and stroke are the 3 major critical illnesses that make up 90% of the claims for critical illness. Out of that number, cancer alone accounts for 70%-80% of the total claim amount⁴.

The plan offers coverage against 3 major critical illnesses and 35 common types of critical illnesses, so you can be better protected against unexpected health conditions. In the event of being diagnosed of a covered critical illness, you will receive 100% of the sum assured¹ as a lump sum cash amount.

ROPCI - C

Extra Coverage Against 4 Special Illnesses

Research states that patients who have received early diagnosis of carcinoma-in-situ and early stage malignancy of specific organs are more likely to be cured if they have received treatment in earlier stage, for example, the survival rate of early-stage breast cancer is 90% higher if treatment is received in an early stage⁵.

Therefore, the plan provides an additional 20% of the sum assured² as a lump sum cash amount for 4 covered special illnesses, including carcinoma-in-situ, early-stage malignancy of specific organs, benign tumour (with surgical excision) and other illnesses (with intensive care unit stay) , so that you can receive timely treatment without financial worries.

The claim for special illnesses will not affect the amount payable under critical illness benefit¹ and that of the premium refund at policy maturity under designated conditions.

ROPCI - D

Unemployment Premium Deferment

If you become unemployed after the policy has been issued for 1 year, you can apply for an extended grace period of up to 1 year to defer payment of the premium³. During the extended grace period, you can still enjoy the relevant critical illnesses protection.

Fact Check

I don’t need critical illnesses protection if I already have medical insurance.

Medical Insurance Plan –Reimbursement Compensation
icon
Critical Illness Insurance Plan – Lump-Sum Cash Compensation
icon
The treatment of cancer or other critical illnesses is often a lengthy and costly process – from screening and diagnosis to treatment and post-recovery support. You may be unable to work for a long time, which may have negative impacts on your daily life.
icon
In a recent study carried out with Hong Kong residents, the participants underestimated the medical expenses for treating critical illness by 61%⁶. Take colorectal cancer as an example, participants estimate that the median cost for private hospital treatment to be around HK$400,000 and the median cost of drugs to be around HK$100,000. In actuality, the total cost of private hospital care can be as high as HK$1,293,000.
icon
While you can be reimbursed for medical expenses with medical insurance, this alone may not be sufficient to cover all your living expenses. It is therefore advisable for those with medical insurance to get a critical illness insurance plan, which can allow you to make flexible financial arrangements in the event of a serious illness.

I’m too young to consider critical illness protection.

icon
In 2019, the Hong Kong Cancer Registry has recorded 35,082 new cancer cases in Hong Kong⁷. According to the report, there is also a trend towards an increasing number of annual cancer cases and a rising cancer rate among young people⁴.
icon
Critical illnesses can occur at any age. Many Hongkongers tend to have busy work schedules and unhealthy lifestyle habits such as having irregular meal times and not getting enough physical activity. These factors may contribute towards an increased risk of developing critical illnesses at a young age.
icon
A good time to apply for critical illnesses insurance plan is when you're young and healthy. The older you get, the more likely you will have adverse health conditions, which may lead to case based exclusion being applied, or your application being declined when applying for insurance.

When choosing a critical illnesses insurance plan, I should opt for the plan that covers as many critical illnesses as possible.

icon
In Hong Kong, the top three critical illnesses – including cancer, heart disease and stroke – account for 90% of the total claims; while cancer alone accounts for 70% to 80% of the total claims⁴. The plan offers coverage against 3 major critical illnesses and 35 common types of critical illnesses, so you can be better protected against unexpected health conditions.

Paying for a critical illness insurance plan is a total waste of money since I may never use it.

icon
Blue understands that you are concerned your critical illness contributions over the years may go down the drain if you don't ever make a claim. ”WeCare 109% Refundable Critical Illness Protector” is a flexible plan that provides you with a benefit in the unfortunate event that you suffer from a covered critical illness; or gives you a 109% premium refund at policy maturity if you have never claimed for a critical illness benefit successfully.
